It was only opened at the end of July, but here we are just a few months later and the bench is already in an appalling state.

Slats have been ripped off (and not replaced), many of the wooden slats are starting to split, the stainless steel is beginning to rust, the shelters themselves are being ravaged by the weather and subjected to almost daily graffiti.

Yesterday, the shelters had the most amount of graffiti I've yet seen (much of it obscene)

Here is what it looked like http://twitpic.com/2zgozb and http://twitpic.com/2zgpq9

Is it any wonder that neither Arun District Council and Littlehampton Town Council publicise the bench on their websites?  Or, for that matter, give it an official launch?

One has to fear what state it will be in come next summer!

What an absolute farce this has been from day one.  I have never liked the design of these shelters, I think they are a blot on the landscape and are as much use as a chocolate fireguard.  It was inevitable that graffiti artists would find the space absolutely irresistable(sp).

An utter waste of money which could have been spent on something...nay anything else!!    Angry
